Are Mini-Sessions for You?

Here in Lubbock we are finally starting to thaw from the Snowpocalypse of 2021, which means we are HEADED TOWARD SPRING!!!!! As we prepare to shift seasons, you’re going to start hearing photographers talk about their upcoming mini-sessions. What’s all this talk about? What even IS a mini-session?

Let me get real with you. I’ve photographed COUNTLESS mini-sessions over the years, and I enjoyed them… but then I had kids. And now I LOVE THEM.

Mini-sessions are short, typically 10-20 minute sessions at a specific location on a specific date. Photographers often stack these sessions back-to-back, to accommodate as many families as possible. A lot of the time mini-session events are full of younger families with babes, toddlers + kids because HELLO ATTENTION SPAN.

I DEFINITELY think there are occasions for a full family session, that sometimes a short session stacked between others isn’t quite the right fit for the occasion. Other times, however, I HIGHLY recommend them.

Booking a mini-session might be a good idea for your family if you:

  • have small children
  • have a photographer whose work you love, but aren’t currently able to invest in his/her full session prices
  • have limited time available in your schedule
  • need an updated headshot
  • want a beautiful, professional family photo for your Christmas card

Booking a mini-session might not be a good fit if you:

  • are wanting newborn photos
  • have a specific location in mind for your photos
  • are hoping for a gallery full of 50+ images
  • are looking for an experience that is flexible to your schedule
  • have a HUGE family or a long list of specific shots you’d like to request

If you’re kinda digging the idea of a shorter session, I’ve got some GOOD NEWS! In just a few short weeks I’ll be announcing the date for my first round of mini-sessions of the year! Booking will be available to my VIP list first, before the site goes live to the public. If you think you might be interested in some more info, you should definitely sign up for this email list. Fill out the form below and I’ll keep you in the know! NO SPAM, NOT EVER. Who knows, you might even find out about some exclusive discounts… 😉

Vivian’s Newborn Session

Back in my early days of photography I tried to be everything to everyone. Want a certain editing style? Sure. Sending me a Pinterest board of poses for me to copy and paste? You got it. Posed newborn photos? No problem.

Except all of these things ARE a problem. It kept me from leaning into what I’m good at, what I love, the unique things I can provide as I serve my clients.

I quickly learned that posed newborn sessions are NOT my jam. By learning my strengths (and weaknesses), I came to find that in-home newborn sessions are my FAVORITE! The family interactions, the feeding breaks, the squishy cheeks and baby cuddles… I love it all.

Today I’m throwing it back to a lifestyle newborn session I photographed last year. If you are all about some in-home newborn photography, let me hear from you!

8 Things To Know About Me

I feel a little silly sitting down to write this post, because honestly — who really cares about my degree or how I like my wine?? But then I started thinking about how nice it could be to connect with some of you on a personal level! I hope my blog can be more than just sharing photos, but maybe an opportunity to get to know one another. SO… today I’m sharing a good ole cliche “get to know me” post, in hopes that I’ll hear back from you! Here we go…

  1. I have a degree in Biblical Studies, with a minor in Psychology. And where did it take me professionally? To photography. Never stop learning!
  2. 4 words: Cheap.Dry.Red.Wine. I just want to drink it, and I honestly don’t care if it costs $3 or $300.
  3. I take food seriously. If there was a 6th love language called “Food,” that would be mine. I love to cook, meal prep, order take out, read cookbooks… ALL.OF.IT.
  4. I am extremely sentimental. I think it is part of the reason I love photography as much as I do. Freezing moments so you can remember them forever? Doesn’t get more nostalgic than that. Also: when I was a kid, I cried saying goodbye to our washer and dryer when it was time to replace them. That’s a true story.
  5. With the exception of a few seasons, I have been a part of Bachelor Nation since nearly the beginning. I know the gossip, I follow the relationships. I’m not proud. But I am far too committed to bail now.
  6. Certain crunchy textures give me the heebie jeebies and make me break out in goosebumps. Apples, those puffy cheetos, Ritz crackers… the hair on my arms is literally standing up just thinking about it.
  7. The longest toe on my left food is my third toe. Yes, third. It’s like the middle finger of my foot. Creepy.
  8. I am an enneagram 6. You can count on me to be loyal to a fault and to have a back up plan for my back up plan.

Okay, hit me with it: you ready to be friends or are you running the opposite direction? I can take it.
JK- remember I’m enneagram 6, I definitely cannot take it.

Minis 2020

You want to know something that has brought me so much JOY recently? Yes, I said the word “joy” in 2020. Are you confused? That’s okay, I was confused to feel the emotion.

13 families. I photographed mini sessions for 13 families this fall, and seeing each of their smiles filled me with LIFE again. This has been A YEAR, ammiright? But I’m trying to receive moments of joy as they make their appearance… and mini sessions this fall were FULL of them.

I hosted 3 mini session events this year – two dates in Lubbock, one in Dallas. Take a second to scroll through some of my favorite photos from the fall, and as you do… I hope you can hear some of the giggles. I hope you can feel some of the JOY.

P.S. Don’t want to miss out on future minis? Scroll to the bottom and get on the waitlist!

Hello LBK!

The past 3 years have brought about a lot of changes for my family. We moved halfway across the country, started a new life in a new city, and grew in number! Because of all these transitions, I decided to take some time away to adjust. Well, I’m SO excited to be stepping back into the photo world – this time in Lubbock, Texas! I look forward to making some new friends along the way.

So here it is! My new blog. It will be a work in progress… but I’m here, and would LOVE to hear from you!
