Horticultural Gardens Family session

One look at these photos and you’d think they were taken at the peak of springtime! When I scheduled this family session in the middle of November, I had no idea the Texas Tech Horticultural Gardens would look THIS amazing. What a beautiful little oasis we have right in the middle of campus.

Loved every second I spent with these 3, and thankful for the opportunity to serve them last fall!

When we took our own family photos

I’m a big advocate (obviously ;)) for hiring a professional to take your family photos when possible. We try to book at least a mini-session once a year. This year I upgraded my camera, so I told myself I would attempt to take our own family photos this fall to save some money, and that we wouldn’t buy new outfits for these photos. Whatever was already in our closet is what we were going to work with. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.

The Canon R6 has an Interval setting, which will allow you to take a specified number of photos with a 10 second interval in-between each shot. I set it up on a tripod and we gave it a go without a remote or trigger. We had several losers, but I’m thrilled with how many great ones we got.

Another method we tested was to shoot in video mode, then export still shots as jpgs in post-processing. This worked okay, but the photos were just kinda *meh*, and I couldn’t get the edits to match with my typical photographic style. So for consistency sake it wasn’t my favorite strategy.

I’m also lucky that Jake knows his way around a camera, and even the girls took a couple of these shots! 🙂 I wonder if you can guess which ones?

Baby Norah’s Lifestyle Newborn Session

Last fall I booked a mini-session with this sweet family. Sarah was a couple months along in her pregnancy, so we used the opportunity to take a few photos announcing that a baby was on the way! Shortly after our time together, Sarah reached back out to book a newborn session! The greatest compliment! Here are just a few faves from our time together… LOVE this family!!

Camping at Caprock Canyon

It was cold and it rained. Raccoons got into our cooler and ate all our food. Our campsite was a quarter mile walk to the bathroom and was the one campsite with no level ground. There were several things that didn’t go as planned… but the girls were happy and having SO much fun, so we decided to laugh about it all. We basically played and slept in the same clothes for 3 days, so I’m pretty sure you can smell us through these pictures. 🙂 We came home from Caprock Canyon tired but we are loving these memories!

Lubbock Lifestyle Session with Allison + Chris

On a few occasions I’ve been LUCKY enough to have the opportunity to work with families assembling their adoption profiles. One crucial piece to an adoption profile is the photography. These pictures show a day in the life of families hoping to adopt, they give a glimpse of their personalities and tell all about who these people are. For the past several weeks I’ve been working with Chris + Allison, brainstorming and discussing their personalities, preferences, and hobbies. Last week I had the privilege of photographing these two in their element, and it was so much fun. Chris + Allison, thank you for sharing your story and for letting me serve your family in this way. I’m cheering for you!!! xoxo
